The Super Bowl is this weekend. Arizona versus Pittsburgh on Sunday night. I almost forgot because there was no football last weekend. I think the week off between the AFC and NFC Championships and the big game is just wrong. Movies about football on TNT just doesn’t cut it. Every year, we get to watch [...]

South Sioux City is not used to being pushed around on their own home floor but that’s exactly what happened on Tuesday night. Bishop Heelan was the team doing the pushing, going on a 21-2 run to start the third quarter and blew out SSC 61-46 at the Mini-Dome.

The game started slowly for both teams with West holding a 10-6 lead after the first quarter. In the 2nd, West went on a 8-0 run to build a 10 point lead [...]

Every time I interview Crusaders Head Coach Tom Betz, he tells me the key to the game is get off to a good start. On Monday night, Heelan didn’t do it — twice and fell to Omaha Creighton Prep 66-60 in the Nebraska Prep Classic.
Heelan struggled out of the gate in the first quarter, giving [...]

A week ago, East built a big lead against Heelan and survived a furious rally to beat the Crusaders by 3. Deja vu. On Friday night, the Black Raiders led by as many as 16 points against North. The Stars came storming back to cut the lead to 1 but got no closer as East [...]

Irony certainly has a funny way of showing up every now and then.
The West gym was full of irony on Tuesday night as East beat West 86-77. The win was the 7th of the year for the Black Raiders but it was the 245th win of Jeff Vanderloo’s career, all at East High School. That [...]

South Sioux City survived a thrilling basketball contest Tuesday night on 1360 KSCJ, beating East 64-62. The Cardinals improved to 5-1 and certainly served notice that they are not to be overlooked in the city.
Freshman Mike Gesell hardly played like it, scoring 19 points to lead the Cardinals. Gesell didn’t have a particularly good night [...]
